The spectacular opening ceremony which took place on 08/08/08 at 08:08:08 has been watched on TV by an estimated one billion people.

In China, the number 8 is revered and seen as an auspicious number, chosen for its similar pronunciations to the Chinese words meaning 'wealth' and 'prosperity'. In astrology, the 8th house of the Zodiac is tied to karma, power, the subconscious, death and rebirth, other people’s money, taxes, business success and failure, loss and gain... In a nutshell, the number 8 is not all good and depends on your karma, i.e. on what seeds you sow, good or bad you did previously.

Since the Olympic Games lasts until August 24th, I have looked into the opening ceremony chart and the recent Solar and Lunar Eclipses relocated for Beijing in order to gain some insights about the actual event and the atmosphere throughout the Olympic Games.

THE BEIJING OLYMPICS AND ASTROLOGY

THE OPENING CEREMONY CHART

The chart for the opening ceremony has a Pisces ascendant and the ruler of the ascendant, Neptune is standing opposite the Leo Sun in the health axis (Neptune in the 12th/Sun in the 6th) and Neptune also forms a quincunx to Mars in Virgo in the 6th House – the house related to health matters, therefore, pollution and toxicity may well be an issue as we know Beijing is polluted and unhealthy. Neptune - among other things - rules drugs, so there could be some issues concerning these here.

With the Venus/Saturn opposition to the Pisces ascendant, a lack of enthusiasm and zeal will be quite apparent. Since there is a stellium of planets in the 6th house, the focus is on services and duties – and with Venus in Virgo, we are talking about attention to details, precision, services and dedication. With the Sun-South Node-Mercury all in Leo, all eyes are on the ‘grandiose’ show of the opening ceremony (Moon sextile Jupiter) and on the Olympic Games.

China’s natal Pluto-Mars falls also on the Sun of the Beijing Olympics chart, this could mean that the Chinese are putting all their energies and a tremendous amount of efforts into the Beijing Games (Pluto-Mars energies represent the energies of athletes).

The Beijing Olympics Chart

As I previously mentioned back in February, the chart contains a Mutable T-Square involving Mars opposite Uranus and Uranus square Pluto (and Mars square Pluto), therefore the atmosphere is likely to be volatile with high tensions. It is possible we may witness some angry outbursts and violence or other disruptive events (Mars/Pluto/Uranus) during the Games. From another point of view, these tense energies have recently added fuel to the fire to the recent Russian-Georgian conflicts...

THE SOLAR AND LUNAR ECLIPSES

Two major eclipses are passing over China. The Solar Eclipse of August 1st opposed China’s ascendant and fell on China’s natal Mars-Pluto conjunction in Leo in the 7th, a sign of confrontation and conflicts ahead, or a sign of intense competition. Mars/Pluto influences are synonymous with primal instincts, violence, abuse, deep frustration and outbursts of anger; and around August 15th and 17th- i.e. around the Lunar Eclipse of August 16th, the ruthless Mars/Pluto square is exact, making it a potentially highly dangerous, violent and stressful time, a time of deep anger and major frustrations and possible political turbulence around the world. Let's hope these powerful energies are played out in the arena.

The Solar Eclipse chart relocated to Beijing

The Solar Eclipse chart relocated to Beijing brings the focus on two matters: from one hand, competition between countries (Solar eclipse in the 7th); from another hand, major financial issues and frustrations (Saturn, the ruler of the hard-working Capricorn ascendant is tied to Mars in the 8th house, with Venus also in the 8th and Uranus-Neptune in the 2nd house, i.e. focusing on the financial axis).

China will show an optimistic face on to the world and will try their best not to display any of these frustrations (Jupiter conjunct to the Capricorn ascendant), but there will be much secret plotting, spying and manipulation going on behind the scenes during the Olympic games (Pluto in the 12th house).

I have recently found out that the Chinese are apparently spying on foreign visitors staying in some hotels in Beijing during the Games.

The Lunar Eclipse of August 16th relocated to Beijing

The relocated upcoming Lunar Eclipse of August 16th falls within 3 degrees of the Beijing’s Leo ascendant, - the South Node on the ascendant indicating a karmic tie - and the Moon-Neptune conjunction is on the Descendant, thus being located at focal points of the chart. The Leo South Node-Sun conjunction also falls right on China’s natal Mars-Pluto, bringing in more intensity and aggressive energies into the competition.

No doubt about this, this is an Olympic games of intense competition, with a focus on individual effort as opposed to teamwork.

Hi Claire,

I just wanted to ask you one question: Do you believe in Karma?

Bonjour Lisa - there is an English expression that says: 'What comes around, goes around'. This expression sums up the laws of karma, i.e. the laws of causes and effects. Like most astrologers, that's my belief indeed.

Saturn trine Uranus (8th) and Jupiter (1st) trine Pluto (8th) in my chart - among other factors - help me to gain deep and intuitive insights into human nature and in the workings of the laws of the universe. Kind Regards - Claire.
